Does fibromyalgia also affect muscles of the hands? My doctor is having trouble diagnosing me because the worst of my body muscle pain is in my hands.

HI Rhonda,
This last major flare up, that I'm still in and it is almost 4 weeks, affected my hands. Thank goodness that part only lasted about 1 week but they hurt sooo bad and I could hardly use them. I couldn't dress and I ate sandwiches that my husband fixed for me. I will still get occasional pain through them but it doesn't stay long. I have been seeing a Physiatrist for 2 1/2 years and my PCP for 27 years. My physiatrist put me on Zanaflex. I can't remember the initial dosage but he had to up it to 2 mg in the morning, 4mg at noon, 2mg at 4 p.m. and 6mg at bedtime. That seemed to work until this winter when things went haywire again. He is considering raising it again for next winter. I am also on a pain med on a regular basis through this flare. Good luck to you in finding someone who can help you. You might want to check out the "Fibromyalgia Center". There is a place there for doctors to click on. Perhaps your doctor could check in with them and see how to treat you. Good Luck and just know that you are not alone in any of your symptoms!! Joyce

I have hand pain most of the time for the past 11 months. I have also lost my father to COPD, my best friend was killed and my dog died on my birthday and I lost my job...all in the past 10 months. I have been in a constant flair up since then (all over). I thought maybe I had carpal tunnel but my doc says is fibro. Some days I cant drive because I cant grip the steering wheel so even the smallest effort in using my hands is very painful. My son gave me these hand mits that you can either heat up in the microwave or put in the freezer. They are filled with herbs and become moist when heated. He found them at Bed Bath and Beyond. I also have the foot booties as well. Moist heat does give some relief but doesnt last long...but any relief no matter how short is something. I like the mits and booties...around $10 a pair. Also hot baths at least 2-3 times a dont want to over do the heat though. I also put Ice on my hands...alternate hot and cold. I hope this helps

I also had pain in my hands and feet and carpal tunnel. It all wet away after my thyroid hormones, among other hormones, were adjusted at the Fibro and Fatigue Centers. I have absolutely no pain at all, anywhere. Fibro can be reversed.
