skin discolouring

Emmi - September 24

Hi everyone. I have recently been diagnosed with FMS and for the first time ever, I see that 'skin discolouring' is a symptom(sign?). I have a lot of this, in the creases of my elbow and thighs, as well as a bit on my stomach.
My Endo told me it was due to PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I was diagnosed with this 2 yrs ago, although it could not be confirmed since I had no ovarian cysts.
I am wondering now if the skin discolouring is actually from FMS instead.
Is there anyone here with this symptom? Can anyone describe it a bit better than what is in the symptoms list?

Thanks for any help

I've been struggling with FMS for awhile now can't say I have heard about skin discoloring. Sorry I couldn't be of any help, but good luck with whatever you find out.

Hi Emmi, I have discolouration in the
elbows . It comes and goes. I feel is I
scrub with a soapy loofa sponge it gets
blood circulation moving and goes away
and when I ignore it it comes back. Another area are parts of my face. Though not too noticible there are darker
areas around my chin or upper lip. The
colouring is at first looks like its dirty or
I have blackheads. Hope this helps.

Hi Emmi..... I have discoloration on the left cheek of my face. Kind of in the shape of a heart. It lightens and darkens at times but never seems to go away. It isn't raised or anything, feels smooth to the touch. I've had it about 3-4 years now. But even at it's darkest it isn't to bad, foundation makeup covers it. I have in other areas but the one of my face is the one I feel the need to cover. I really never thought of it being fibro related but I guess it's possible. My biggest skin related problem is itchiness. It drives me crazy at times. My skin is dry but this itch seems to be more than just a dry skin reaction. Good luck to you.... Brandy

Hi Emmi, what you are describing sounds like could be Acanthosis Nigricans, and yes it does go with PCOS and Insulin Resistance, also it goes along with Fibro, and Hidradenitis Suppurativa another disease I have.
I have severe itchy skin, an itch that when scratched it does not help, I have had this for years and years, about as long as the fibro.
Hope this helped some.

Hi Emmi, I don't have discoloration but I do get these sores at times.Actually more than I'd like.I go to bed at night and wake up in the morning and have a sore somewhere on my face, scab and all.It feels like bugs crawling around in there and itches very much.I told my Dr. about it and he said it is fibro related. He gave me some gel stuff to put on it.It really sucks and looks awful.I don't know why or how this happens so quick overnight. But I guess I'll have to learn to deal with it just like everything else......Colleen

Hi Emma

I had RSD with my fibromyalgia, which led to a discolouring of my wrist and hand. They went quite mottled and blue at some points. My doctor seems to think it is all related. It was after a wrist injury that my FMS was diagnosed and I started getting symptoms. Even now, 4 years later I still get mottled skin and the occassional blueness.
