Need to find suitable medication

Ive struggled with fibro for 3 years now and like
everyone have terrible trouble sleeping and staying asleep. The only medication I take is co-codamol 30/500. Doc gave me amytriptiline at first but I have a major problem with vertigo and it just made me more dizzy. I found it did help me
sleep better though. Im not too good with medication as a lot either gives me stomach problems or makes me more dizzy. My doctor has been very understanding but seems to have given up now. Any suggestions for alternative medication?

Yes, you could try taking Melatonin or L-Theanine. Either of these are available at any decent health food store. I take 25mg Amitriptyline at night along with 1mg Melatonin and 200mg of L-Theanine. I'm not good with medication either. One thing that I have noticed is that you need to be well hydrated to make sure the drug dissolves and moves through your system properly. I've had less problems since I started drinking more water.

I'd start with 1 mg of melatonin on a night when you don't have to be anywhere the next day. That way yu won't be frustrated if it gives you vertigo or makes you too sleepy.

I hope my comments are helpful to you. Take care.

What you are describing are side affect of co-codamol.

As for the stomach problems, eat smaller meals, stick to the plain foods. No soft drinks/nor coffees, this will make you feel light headed bloated and sick to your stomach. As for being dizzy again it's a side affect, if you need to take them, just take your time getting up, and if you have to turn, turn slowly.

Good luck to you.

Hey lizbet, I thought I'd recognize you, so still having problems with the docs in the UK, what a bore they are.

Have you talked to your gp about Yentreve, bring with you some information for your gp to read into it, might take some time, but keep going back and saying that you are on this board and that many of us are being treated with it and that you think it would be beneficial for you.

Like I said you are your best spokesperson. Bring someone with you to hold your hand when you go see him/her if this will help you.

Most docs usually never stray away from what they have always gave, but it doesn't work for everyone and some people just need a different prescription.

Remember you need to get help and then get the rest of your symptoms under control.

Talk to you later.

Hi, there. I've been having good luck with taking Feldene to help me get through the night. I haven't noticed any side effects. If you like alternative treatments, I'd also suggest having a nice warm cup of chamomile tea before bedtime. Just the act of making tea can be very calming, and Celestial Seasonings sells a very tasty apple chamomile blend for around three dollars a box. Best of luck!

Hi Axxie and Solanadelfine. Thanks for the info. I havent heard of either of those medications but will definitely look into both of these and go and see doc armed with info! Take Care.x

lizbet, I am having same problem. Here it is 3 am and still awake. My dr has me on xannax to relax and sleep but its not working anymore. Been having a lot of late nights up or waking up wee hours of morning. Then I am dragging it all day next day. Maybe my dr. needs to up the dose?
Maybe xannax will help you. Hope you get what you need soon. Us fibros need our sleep. I found that out a long time ago.
