I've been running a fever the past few days. My wbc is ridiculously low and my rheumy said to come in if I'm running a fever to get antibiotics for an infection. Problem is I forgot to clarify how high it had to get. It was 99.1 thurs. 99.4 fri. and 99.5 right now. At last check when I was in the e.r. last week my wbc was only 2.9...4 is normal. This isn't totally fibro related but I'm wondering if I should leave work and head to the hospital. I'm being treated for lupus and sjogren's too and the doc said the next time i come in that he wants to talk about an alternate diagnosis. I need to head to the e.r.? 99.5 is not normal for me. Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for asking. My temp peaked at 99.8 and isn't moving. I saw the rheumy yesterday. He now thinks I have something called Felty syndrome...a rare immunological disorder that consists of low wbc, rheumatoid arthritis and a swollen spleen. I have an x-ray tuesday to check for walking pheumonia and ct of my spleen. He's also checking my thyroid.

The fibro isn't so bad right now but the other symptoms are. Major hot flashes then chills. I'm trying to hang in there. I'm supposed to be moving next month and I have no energy to get the job done. I've basically been sick since November.

Do you think I should be concerned about radiation? I have lost count of all the mri's,ct scans and x-rays I've had in the past year. Again, thanks for asking. I have no one to call and talk to. I feel like I always bring bad news and know they won't understand. I basically sleep and work, no time or energy for anything else.

tnichel - I'm glad to hear from you even if the news may not be good. At the moment, I think that it is more important to get the necessary tests done than worry about the cumulative effect of repeated xrays etc. You've got to get to the bottom of why you are going from one infection to another. Once Felty Syndrome is confirmed, you can start putting your foot down about scans, and xrays etc.

I'm moving next month too! I'm in the middle of a flare and packing is just not something I really care about at the moment. I'm as mean as a sun burned rattlesnake today. I woke up at 3:30 AM and could not get back to sleep. I feel like someone kicked sand in my face and eyes. And, I already have that sinking feeling that tonight is going to be more of the same. I must have been really terrible in a former life to deserve all of this.

Hang in there - I'm pulling for you. If it turns out to be Felty than at least you have an explanation for being sick all of the time. And, hopefully a remedy so you'll start feeling better. I just wanted you to know that I was concerned and hoping everything was OK. Try and get some rest this weekend. Take care.
