i've have pain in the middle of my back with shortness of breath for 9 years now. I've seen every kind of doctor you could imagine with not 1 giving me a diagnosis. Is the fibro and what can i do to get a deep breath again
thanks andy

You should see a rheumatologist, if you haven't yet, to see if you have FMS. Impossible to diagnose over the internet and most of us (all of us?) here are not in the medical field. We can just tell you whether or not we have similar symptoms and what we have done to relieve them. I do have back pain (lower) that doesn't go away but it is mild and does not cause shortness of breath.

Hi Typappy, The first thing I thought of while reading your post was your heart. But you said you have been seeing doctors for years. I would think you heart would be one of the first things that was looked into. I sure hope you get to the bottom of this. Good luck to you and many blessings.... Brandy

Andy, has anyone checked your gallbladder? How about arthritis or degenerative joint disease of the spine? How old are you?

Andy, This is one symptom I had- only it was chest pain, and shortness of breath. It does go through to my back though. Had all the heart tests and my heart is fine. Lungs are fine. See if you can see a doc who knows about fibro. I don't know what your other issues are

Hi Typappy, My friend has one lung and has pain like that, But is now getting help with anxiety and oxygen tank at night to help her breath and cuts out the pain which she always thought was heart attack coming on, She had the ambulance chaps running. But it was a real thing.

It was the shortness of breath - inability to get a deep breath as well - and chest pains which made me finally see my GP. The chronic pain I was living with, though it did seem to be getting worse. But you know, I figured I was getting older, I'd had a few car accidents in my youth and that it was all just taking its toll. But the shortness of breath and chest pains will get your attention every time!

Chest x-rays were clear and no high blood pressure. So I'm personally attributing it to the Fibro as well. It comes and goes, and doesn't seem to matter if I'm being active or not.

I agree you need to see someone with a view to Fibro as a possible diagnosis.

I have suffered from shortness of breath for 12 months now and it is driving me crazy. I feel like I cannot get enough oxygen to my head. I have found futher useful details on the following sites: "The Final Frontier - the human brain", also on this website and on the fmaware website. Do a google search on breathing and fibromyalgia.

Unfortunately, I have not found the solution but somethings I find that help are: learing to breathe properly (this pushes the pain barrier though); massage to ribcage/chest/stomach and Baclofen taken at night time releases my muscles and I can breather again for a few hours in morning and I guess while I am sleeping.

I am now considering getting an oxygen tank for short-term relief and to boost my oxygen levels.
