Hi my name is Selah,
Wednesday I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I have read a little here on the forum, and I must admit I'm scared to death.
For the past 7-years I have been on anti-depressants. I began taking them to help control my out of control hormones. I am 47-years old and I am menopausal. Because I had a TIA, my obgyn would not give me hormones of any kind because of the risk of stroke. So he recommended Sara-Fem which is basically Prozac I also tried Effexor XL, which I really liked, because it helped with my hot-flashes, but then I had to go back to the Prozac, because I had an allergic reaction to the Effexor. I just recently decided that I did not need the Prozac anymore, so I eased myself off of it. After being off of it completely for several months (3) I began having these strange aches and pains. Along with strange electricity type feelings. (they are the worst)
I went to my Family Doctor and he did a pressure point test and basically said I have fibromyalgia.
I am a very active person, but have noticed the past year or so, I get tired and worn-out to easily. Even on the Pro-zac...I believed it was the Meds doing it to me. But come to find out it just a symptom of fibromyalgia. I really do not want to go back on any Meds. Emotiionally I have been so up and down the past few days. Today, I shampooed my carpets and when I was done the pain was excruciating. My mood swings are starting to get to me, it is hard to be nice and easy going when you are in pain. I can see clearly it is taking a toll on my husband...I just want to be normal again. I would like to know if anyone out there has taken anything "Natural" if I can't find something I am leaning towards the Cymbalta any suggestions would be great.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Saint Johns Wort has been's a natural anti-depressant. Dietary changes can help too. You will find that you have a different pace to everything you choose to participate in...if you don't want to crash and burn afterwards. good luck my fibro friend.

Hi Selah

Do you believe you sound just like I did, not long ago. Yes, I've tried them all, Effexor, XL, Prozac and everything else in between. Don't they take care of you, but then when you ease youself off them, you think you are doing ok, and then you find yourself at another roadblock.

I'm 52 now, and on Cymbalta, it has helped me tremendously, I don't have the up's and downs, the problem, is I'm so nice, that I can't stand myself any longer. lol

Have you tried Natural Relief, it does help with the hot flashes, night sweats, sleeplessness, irritability, memory loss, and other menopause symptoms. I have a few friends who swear by it, and I might just try it, because I'm trying to cut out the drugs.

You have to be careful about the anti-depressant and hormone therapy and the cancer link to breast cancer.

What ever you do, please read and read some more prior to movin to any therapy. There's this site that I would like for you read about, it's called breastcancer dot org. I hope you understand, the site, where not suppose to write them in our message.

A diet high in fish and natural products, and no sugars, additives, can help you also.

Please peruse this web site also, there are many ways to fight off some of the pain.

Good luck, a fibro friend.

Hi Selah, I just wanted to let you know my dr. tried me on several antidepressants but everyone of them kick my tail. I wanted to sleep and sleep and I was dragging it.I feel I need something for depression b/c I do get mood swings bad at times. When the pain get really bad I feel like the only person in the world feeling this way but I know from this board that I am not.
Are you on any pain meds? I am on norco for the pain and it helps. My dr.had a hard time finding one that I could take without side effects. I also take a annax to help relax and sleep at night.
you said you want to be normal again, My saying is alway''I want my life back'' so I Know where you are coming from. Goodluck and vent back anytime.
