I'm Exercising...Finally!

I understand that not everyone can do this, but I can and I'm feeling so much better! It took me awhile to feel good enough to get out there and walk, but the first day I did feel good enough, I forced myself to get up and DO IT! I realized my biggest challenge was mental...I've never been the kind of person to exercise or even break a sweat, and I seem to always have "good intentions" but never seem to actually act on them. The other thing I had to overcome mentally was I was so worried that I would make myself feel worse. And that's the last thing I ever want to do to myself.

But I started walking two days's not much...but it's a lot for me! I'm really hoping that this will make me feel better overall and I'm really proud of myself for finally trying to actively do something to help myself. I have spent a lot of time dwelling on all the things I CAN'T do, instead of being proud of all the little things that I CAN do.

So far, I'm sore and achy, but I'm not dying and I'm going to keep walking every day and hope that I can keep doing it. I guess you have to look at it as "One day at a time". I'm not going to worry about whether I can do it tomorrow or next week, I'm just going to take each day as it comes. And if I am having a "bad day", then I don't have to walk...but as soon as I'm feeling better, than I will be out there walking again!

Wouldn't you know it? I just got up to get a cup of coffee and for some reason my hip suddenly starting hurting real bad! Oh I said...If I can't walk today, then I will try tomorrow...but I REFUSE to give up!

anyways...I just wanted to tell everyone that I know some of you are a lot worse with this illness than I am, but for those of you who aren't, if you can get up and just do a little doesn't have to be much...but anything is better than nothing!

And be PROUD of all the "little" things you are accomplishing each and every day! Right now I only have 2 goals each day....walking and making my family dinner every night. Everything else is a bonus, but I'm also not going to be hard on myself if I can't accomplish even those 2 things. If I can't do it today....then I will try again tomorrow!

Take care of yourselves, Stacey :o)

Stacey, how wonderful to hear that walking is working so well for you, and that you're taking such a smart attitude towards it. I also enjoy taking walks with my parents for part of my exercise, and bring along my favorite dagger cane for a little extra push on the uphill portions. Not only do we get fresh air, stretched muscles, and good exercise for the heart, but also the lovely endorphins.

Do you have any favorite place to walk, or wherever you happen to be at the moment?

Hi solanadelfina!
I live out in the country in the middle of a 30 acre christmas tree farm. I'm in south west Washington in the Columbia River Gorge and it truly is the most beautiful place.
My driveway is about 1/4 mile long so I've just been walking up and down it with my dogs. Every time we would try to plan to go down to the school and walk around the track or some other place, something would come up or it would just be a hassle to get all the kids loaded up and the dogs put away. So I finally decided the easiest way to do this was just to walk up and down my driveway and then I didn't have to worry about my dogs and the kids could keep doing what they wanted to do (like swimming! lol)

It's actually working out pretty good and I'm able to get the exercise that I needed! Not to mention, my dogs were getting a little chubby, so it's good for them too!

Thanks for your reply...Take Care of Yourself, Stacey :o)
