Answer: Look up on Medscape if you are experiencing this because this is not easily diagnosed but you may want to ask your doctor about it. GERD: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Yes! I'm so glad you wrote. I asked the question under the 'support group' section of this website. Unfortunately no one responded. I've had fibro for 25 years and just last week the ENT told me that my vocal cords are not sufficiently closing due to weakness to the muscles and nerves in the area. He told me it was likely due to fibro. I was referred to a speech therapist for help in strengthening that area. Right now I'm dealing with so many different doctors, I'm putting this one on the back burner for awhile! Sore throat and deep jaw/ear pain have become more prominent lately. I'm sorry you're dealing with these symptoms. I know they're not easy to deal with.

My mother was diagnosed with Fibro about 6 years ago. A few months ago, she began to get hoarse and cough. She has seen specialists and they told her it was GERD. She went on Prylosec which did not help so they are now trying Nexium. They are also sendng her to a Speech Pathologist.

Kim, I had pretty much the same thing happen to me. It's been about 5 years ago when I started loosing my voice the Dr. did an Endoscopy and found out that it was because the Acid was coming up and burning my vocal cords. Unfortunately, there was to much damage to be repaired. I had the same problem that medicines weren't working and they cost to much money. I just started taking Pepcid AC and it seems to keep the acid at bay. I hope that she has more luck and hopefully not as much pain. Let us know what the Dr. says. I will be praying for her. Take care and God bless.
