Hi everyone,

I posted this on the general discussion page and no one responded, so I'm hoping I hear something on this page. My doctor recently put me on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, I'm in menopause. She claims it has helped many fibro patients manage their pain. Also, I was given a script for Vitamin D 50,000 mg. once a week as I was severely vitamin D difficient and the DHEA I guess is also supposed to be helpful in managing fibro pain. She gave me xanax to take at bedtime, and for the first time in forever, I'm actually sleeping at nite, it's wonderful!! :) My question tho, is if anyone has had any success with the hormone therapy, or the supplements I mentioned. Thanks so much!!

Dr Jacob Teitelbaum who is an expert in treating Fibromyalgia (FMS) recommended bio-identical hormone therapy. Google him and you'll find lots of information. Vitamin D is also a very effective treatment as many people with FMS are found to be deficient in this area. You are very luck yo have a doctor who is up to date with treatment protocols for FMS. Take care.

Hello iliveinpain,
I have had fibromyalgia for 25 yrs. I have done everything and tried so many medications. Yesterday I went to see a new Dr. and he told me about taking antivirus medications for the treatment of fibro. I am so happy and hopeful for the first time in a long time. I may be taking some hormones too later once my test results come back. He is a Dr. that gives bio-identical hormones. I am happy for you. He did tell me that DHEA could help too. He said that sleep and good sleep was so important, so it is wonderful that you are getting to sleep good. I think he will give me something to help me sleep once the test results come back. He told me to get the book by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum that would help me understand his treatment I will be taking.

Vitamin D is important for everyone, and you need to take it with calcium to help the calcium absorb better. However, if you are taking 1 dose of 50,000 IU, you can not only be wasting your money as the amount your body does not use is excreted, but I would suggest you research the dosage - it is possible to die from an overdose of Vitamin D. I take it daily, but 1,000 IU with calcium at breakfast. Check WebMD for dosages.

I would love to try bio-identical hormones. What kind of doctor prescribed them and what kind of tests did you have done

Is this bio-identical hormone therapy only for menopausal women? I'm only 26, definitely not even pre-menopause, but I know my flare-ups are directly linked to my hormones and I can't take birth control...not even the NuvaRing!

I saw my doctor today; she suggested that I take 3,000iu of Vitamin D per day for one month, then go down to 1,000iu per day.

She also told me to take Calcium and Magnesium. And she is sending me for a sleep study.
