Changing Doctors - what should I do
2 Replies

Hi:

Just wanted an opinion on whether to completely disregard what the old Dr. had prescribed, and start completely with what the new one has said?
I find this a problem with me, and have taken a bunch of the old Dr. prescriptions back to pharmacy, and she has taken most of them back.

I find I hoard drugs just in case I might need them. This is a baaad habit I know. Replies anyone.

Susan - I have to ask what is the point of starting with a new doctor if you are not going to follow their instructions? If you can not trust them with your health concerns than you have a very big problem.

Do you think this tendency has something to do with being wasteful? I get that having started new medication and finding it didn't work for me. That being said, playing pharmacist is very dangerous. Get rid of or donate your left over medication before you end up in the hospital.

You should do what the new doctor has told you. Some adjustments may have to made in terms of medications but the new doctor should decide how to handle that. Your new doctor seems very willing to work with you and discuss your concerns. Extend that same level of trust to him by following his instructions. Take care.

Hi Susan - I think it would be hard for me to do if some of my meds were working good and the new doctor is trying to change them. Is that what is happening and you don't want to change meds?
