Candida Yeast Infection
4 Replies
Elizabeth - September 2

I've read that a yeast infection might be the cause for fibro in some people. Has anyone had this problem?

Yes, my doctor confirmed my yeast overgrowth. I am now on a sugar free/yeast free diet for 6 weeks and also took diflucan for a few days. Hopefully this will clear it up. She feels this is part of my FMS symptoms.

Kim, could you tell me what tests the doctor did for you? I think I have a yeast overgrowth, and I've already eliminated sugar and yeast from diet (started two days ago). Also, I read that you're supposed to eliminate breads and pastas (carbs), as well as fruits...very strict diet. Did your doctor tell you to avoid all carbs?

Yes, I am on a very strict diet. After she did a stool sample test and verified the over-growth, she put me on the diet. I've been on it about a week and a half. I have to avoid sugar and yeast. She did tell me I can have the organic whole wheat pasta (sparingly) and yeast/sugar free bread. I can eat all vegetables except corn, carrots, and potatoes. She told me also to eat only 1-2 pieces of low sugar fruit a day - avoid oranges, bananas, raisins/prunes, and grapes. Also, no vinegar is allowed which eliminates most condiments. She is also having me avoid all dairy except organic plain yogurt and eggs. Peanuts, pistachios and peanut butter is out also but I can have all other nuts. It's very strict and I have to be on it for at least 4-6 weeks before adding a few things back in small amounts. I have found Wholefoods grocery store to be a blessing as they have all organic foods and I found sugar/yeast free bread that is tolerable.

Thank you, Kim. It's a very strict diet, but I'm willing to go on it if it will help me with fibro.
