My Mom Has Fibro but I think it's more then that

My mom has had FMS for over 5 years and it all started when her mother died and my sister and I moved out of the house to start our own lifes. She has the pain of fibro but all of the other people I know with FMS do share the other characteristics. She can been in the middle of a conversation and fall asleep. She slurrs her words. She gets angry if we try and help. I don't know if this could be something more than FMS. I know depression is also linked to FMS and think this might have something to do with it.
My sister and I are lost. Our mother has completly changed and we need help. Any advice is good advice. Thanks!

Your Mom could certainly be depressed. Chronic pain is very debilitating. Do you have any idea what medication she is taking? The fact that she slurs her words and falls asleep in the middle of a conversation concerns me a great deal. She may be abusing her meds or possibly self medicating with alcohol. Either way, you and your sister need to stand your ground and get to the bottom of this.

You and your sister need to make an appointment with her doctor. If your mother will not go with you, go and see the doctor and express your concern. The doctor will not be able to discuss her treatment and conditions with you but you can be on record that there is a problem.

The other option is to set up an appointment to see a counselor who specializes in chronic pain patients and take her to see them. You can find someone by calling your local hospital physician referral service and asking them for a recommendation.

I hope that you are able to get some help for your mother. This needs to be a family effort not just one individual. Good luck and take care.
