Weight loss surgery and Fibro meds.

Hello all, I have another question. I was wondering if anyone out there with Fibro has had weight loss surgery? The reason I am asking is because I had the LAP-Band before I was diagnosed with Fibro and I have not started any meds for Fibro yet, that comes this month. My worry is that I will not be able to take the meds. See, with the weight loss surgery I can only swallow pills no bigger then an M&M or take liquid. I was just wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat and if it has been an issue. Thanks

13Tracy13 - That is a very good question and one you should be asking the doctor who did the Lap-Band surgery or whoever is overseeing your weight loss plan.

I also have a couple of suggestions. Fibromyalgia (FMS) medication is usually delivered in pill or capsule form. If the pills are too big, you can buy a pill splitter at any drug store. They are usually kept by the pharmancy area.

If a capsule is too big, you can have the medication reformulated to a smaller more convenient size by a compound pharmacy. There is probably one in your area and you are just not aware of it. If the pharmacy is not convenient to your home, the script can be faxed and the medication mailed to your home.

You should also raise this concern with the rheumotologist who will be managing your FMS.

The sooner you get on some medication for FMS, the better. Once a chronic pain cycle starts and is allowed to continue it becomes harder to get it under control. You might want to consider seeing a pain specialist in addition to the rheumy. Take copies of your most recent blood work with you to either doctor. That way you may avoid the extra expense of having to do the same thing over again.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are managing. Take care.
