Valerian Root?

Has anyone tried this for sleep? I was told about it by a friend and I'm curious. Thanks!

I don't know what that is but I can attest to using Tylenol PM for better sleep. It takes about 45 minutes to kick in and it really helps.

Hello KHawley, I asked my dr.to give me something to help sleep,as I rarely sleep. He wouldn't and told me to take at bedtime 2 melotonin,2 benydryl,1 to 2 valerian with a cup of hot milk. Well I tried it and it does help me at least get sleepy ,but doesn't keep me asleep. The only reason I quit using it is that the valerian root smells so bad I can hardly get it past my nose.Imagine the stinkiest feet you could ever smell, that is what it smells like.It really is a horrible smell. Not to mention the hot milk is not delicious. So anyway if you can get it past your nose, give it a try. Now I use over the counter sleeping aids such as tylenol pm. Good Luck................Colleen

Thanks for the feedback. I tried it last night & was able to swallow them. (I'm only afraid that the smell might seep through my skin while I sleep??). Anyway, my toddler decided to wake up at 3:30 am, so I have no idea how it worked. I did seem to sleep a little better, though. Thanks again. I might try tylenol pm too.

Yes - It is an ingrediant in Estroven PM. I think it does help. But in addition to amitriplyine and gabapentin at night I also use Melatonin (1 Mg) and L- Theanine (200 mg) to help me sleep. My doctors and nutritionist are fine with this combo. It certainly is not perfect but I will settle for some sleep as opposed to none.
