Has anyone cme across exercises that can e undetaken with in the gym that help strengthen without the pain that it can cause(besides yoga and other related classes)?

It depends on how your fibro affects you. If that is all you have stretching exercises are good as well as walking, swimming etc. Now strengthening exercises are ok only if your fibro is not accompanied with myofascial pain syndrome. If you have this you need to work in getting your trigger points under control before you can do strength training.
