My TMJ is awful this week, anybody know something that might help? I feel like someone gave me a smack in the jaw. I'm not even sure what got it acting up, but it's painful.

Hello Chris2. I have experience with that.... I've had TMJ for 20 years and just last year when I was seeing a physiotherapist for many different joint issues, I came in one day with a bad headache, and I knew my jaw was out of alignment. He examined my jaw, head, etc., then put on gloves and got right into the joint (thru my mouth) of my jaw where it was out of whack. It hurt like crazy but an hour later my headache was gone, my jaw didn't hurt. The symptoms of pain, crackiing are just returning now and I was thinking I'll have to go back for another adjustment. Good luck, and there is a way of treating this!

Yes, I've had the sort of PT that Carrie has. My physical therapist gloved up and put her thumb right in my mouth at the joint. She showed me how I can do it myself, but I don't think I can explain it here. Physical Therapists are a great resource and can help you learn to stand, move and treat yourself so that you can deal with the pain. Take care!
