Proper exercise

I just joined a gym today.. for the sole purpose of improving my health and not allowing Fibromyalgia to control me..I know it will be tough, but I think that I need to get in better shape.. Does anyone have any good advise as to what sort of exercise will not put me out for days afterwards?.. I know swimming is good, but is there anything else beneficial to help with easing the symptoms of Fibro?

The info on this site is good - I think it's under "Self Care". The info they give is similar to what my phsio therapist and kinesiologist suggested. The kin. told me Never Exercise More than 1/2 hour at a time. (Not sure if I've ever seen that mentioned before, but it is important) When I was first off sick, not knowing what was wrong with me, every time I exercised, I'd be in bed for at least 2 or 3 days afterwards.. . hardly able to move. I'm also diabetic and to help keep blood sugars level I was told to use a stationary bike for 10 mins. at a time, thru-out the day. I don't have a bike at home, so I do that at the "Y" but only 10 minutes at a time, twice a week. I also get into the pool and swim one or 2 lengths (not on the same day)... I don't ever let myself get out of breath. Stretching is great as well as doing some light weights..... but you should really find someone to workout with, someone who's trained and knows All your chronic illnesses. My worst days are when I spend too much time sitting or lying still. Easy movement thru-out the day is ideal for me. Even though I don't Want to move, those are my better days. Kudos to you for wanting to get out there!! Let me know how this works for you.
