carol - June 26

i have so much pain in or when you touch where my bladder is i can not have sex. i am a young newlywed and can't have sex. i have been to every doctor and they think it is in my head. i have firbromyalgia.

Andrea - December 27

I have this too but I have interstitial cysitits I'm not sure if that is the right spelling, maybe try one more doctor or ask your gynecologist, keep pushing them, if you don't like the answers you get seek other professionals.

carol - December 27

How did you find this out? Is this something they could see. I have had ever kind of test possible?
Thanks so much.
PS they are telling me it is in my head!!

How long has this be occuring? Its very common for doctors to tell us that the pain is in our heads.... keep looking for a doctor that understands fibro and is willing to investigate and help. Have you had a full workup for infections and organ problems? Sometimes we can write off another problem because we, out of habit, assume it is our fibro since it always changes its face. God Bless and keep your attitude positive. That is the biggest defense against this God forsaken condition!

this has only happen since i returned from my honeymoon. believe it or not but i was a virgin when i got married and just thought my problem was because i had not had sex. but it is so painful i can not sleep at night. i set in a hot tub of water most of the night. my new husband is very sweet and understanding but i am very depressed. i want to enjoy a healthy sexual realation with him.

bascially it's just inflammation of the pelvic area I have both inflammation in my uterus and my bladder my gyneo a long time diagnosed it through a procedure and symptoms. Have they checked you for endometreosis yet?

Jean - December 29

First see a Rheumatologist and get the diagnosis confirmed and let him/her know of your problem and can refer you to a obgyn to help you in this matter.

carol - December 29

yes they did a test for endrometerois and found nothing. I have had my bladder scoped, inflated (?) to look for lesions. nothing. the doctors think it is all in my head. but it hurts. i was already told i should next see a rheumatogoist dr. so i will. thanks

I know this might not help you but i've tried it before try taking a warm bath before your intimate with your spouse, it might help a little with the pain...if your not allergic to ibuprofen try taking one, right before you know your going to be intimate, it helps a little with the pain...hope it works out for you..:) p/s I'm not a doctor and this shouldn't replace the advice of a a medical professional...

Carol - January 4

Andrea, thanks i wll try anything. i do take lots of hot baths for the pain. Everyone thinks it is all in my head that i am crazy. beginning to think so too. LOL

I HAVE NO DRIVE, MY BOYFRIEND DOESN'T UNDERSTAND, OR DOES HE UNDERSTAND NO.I'M TIRED OF FIGHTING ABOUT IT.I JUST DON'T WANT IT, IT TAKES TO MUCH ENERGY.I OFTEN THINK WE SHOULD SPLIT UP. I FEEL SO ALONE ALL THE TIME. I'M TIRED OF CRYING.I'M TIRED OF HURTING. HOW CAN I LIVE THE REST OF MY LIFE LIKE THIS. HOW DO YOU FIND THE POSITIVE THOUGHT TO KEEP YOU GOING? I JUST DONT KNOW!

Rebecca, I'm sorry your in so much pain maybe you should show this website to your boyfriend or spouse...the more information they read the better they can understand what is going on with you. I've been there, and no exactly what you are feeling, it's taken a long time for the people around me to accept this condtion and even longer for me to accept it. It will take some time for people around to accept it, paitence and understanding don't seem possible right now, but they will. hope you feel better soon *hugs*

Have them check you for endometreosis. I had painful intercourse after the birth of my one and only. I had developed endometreosis. They tried treating me with meds and lasier, but the meds didn't work and it came back after lasier surgery. Later I had a total hysterectomy. If you do have endometreosis and you want babies, start trying because the worst endometreosis gets, the less likely you are to get pregnant. I knew a girl in this situation who tried for two years and it had got so bad, she had to have a hysterectomy. I'm lucky to have my only child.

There is a condition called vulvodynia (which means vulvar pain) and the symptoms include burning pain or other painful feelings in the vulvar area. It can inlude painful sex also, but not always. Or there can be an increase in pain after sex. Basically, there are no lab tests to diagnose it so it won't show up as a problem on blood tests, pap tests, or other standard ob/gyn tests. And not all ob/gyn's know about it or know how to diagnose it. I don't know if this is where you pain is located or not. You said it is where your bladder is so I don't know if you mean the entrance to the tube to the bladder (the urethra) or up higher near your abdomen. If the pain is in the vulvar area, around the urethra, or the entrance to the vagina check out this website: http://www.nva.org/
It's an organization that provides lots of information about it and links to dr's who can diagnose and treat it. I have this condition and fibromyalgia. Good luck and hang in there - if you have this they can help you. You just have to find the right dr and get the right treatment. Also, I believe Intersistial Cystitis can cause painful sex too - like another person said earlier.

I just found out I have Endometreosis. I had been to countless doctors over 5 year period with pain and infections. They would tell me I have a bacterial infection(which Endometreosis can cause these) and the pain was pelvic inflammation due to these bacterial infections. This doctor finally did an ultasound but since Endo. can't be seen on ultrasound he told me we should look into Laproscopy(explorarory surgery) because he thought I may have Endo. even though I didn't have all the classic signs. Which low and behold I did. This doctor thought enough of me and I thought enough of my self to keep looking because I knew something wasn't right with my body. I just started medicene so hopefully the pain will go away soon. Good Luck!!

I too have a similar problem of painful sex. Like another person mentioned, it is not in my abdomen area. And it is really hard for me to be in the mood like another person mentioned. This is the first time I have even been to a forum since I have been diagnosed with fibro in June 05. It is amazing to me that there are so many of us with so many similar problems as well as emotions in dealing with our pains. I have been through so many emotions but I have just decided that my diet needs to change and I think that should help me manage the pain. I am so glad you posted your question because I now know of some options to help me. Like your husband, my husband is kind and understanding, but I know he would really like a better sex life. who wouldn't? Anyway, hang in there. I complained once about being half the woman physically. My sister gave me some thoughts that help me often when my energy is low and my pain is high preventing me from playing with my 2 yr old daughter..."You may be half the woman physically, but you are twice the woman spiritually: Even though it's hard, we have learned wisdom and patience that many would love to have. Sorry I wrote a whole book. I hope it helps.

I have suffered with fibromyalgia all my life i think. was diagnosed by a neurologist ten years ago. I have mentioned to many doctors inb the past that my condition causes me to have severe pain after, and can hardly move.My whole body auffers not just my pelvis area. I to am looked at as though i am crazy! I feel so happy to learn i am not alone in this problem. This is the first time in ten years i have ever heard any one else compalin of this condition.
