Odors/smells

Can't take smells/odors like I used to. They make me physically sick instantly (not that I feel good anyway), but really puts me over the edge. Any suggestions on help?

Not unusual for someone with FMS...

I have had to throw out countless bottles of lotion, soaps, candles, etc. I do the "sniff test" in the store before buying, but sometimes still have to get rid of them. My husband is banned from using institutional soaps found in men's bathrooms...Softsoap is fine. Someone who used to work for us made my nose go crazy every time I was around her--I finally had to ask her what perfume she was wearing. It was actually a bodywash...My husband used to make fun of me for my sensitive nose, but now realizes it is a very real issue.

As to solutions...sometimes you just have to be honest with people. You might carry a perfume/oil you like in your purse, to daub under your nose to mask the offensive smell...Centuries ago (when people didn't bathe often), men and women would carry a perfumed hankie.

Now if I could only think that bakeries have offensive odors, I'd be pounds lighter! ;-)

i learned a great trick for offensive fragrences years ago and i share it with everyone i can! it works great. Sniffing coffee beans will block others smells. i have a film container of coffee beans in my purse, when i come in contact with an offensive odor i just sniff the beans and all is good. i can even go in the gift shops that are murder for people with sensitivities. hope you try it.

I had someone who used to work in a pound say that she keeps peppermints in her mouth while she is cleaning cages, she swore it helped her tolerate the smells.
