kmasters - January 14

I have been to my DR a couple of times and finally was sent to a rheumatologist. He said i had polyarthralgia. When i went back to my Dr he said i had some fibro,So i am not sure what is going on. I feel like i have the flu 24/7.
Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
The specialist put me on gabapentin and a sleep medication and sent me back to my family Dr.
I am fustrated because no one understands how i feel.

Go to the National Fibromyalgia Association website and ask them for a referral to a fibro-friendly doctor in your area.

Not all rheumotologists are created equal. There are still plenty of medical professionals out there that treat fibro patients like a nusiance.

If you have recent bloodwork results, take them with you to the new rheumy. They may run blood panels anyway or it may save you some time.

Finally, if you don't understand something, insist they explain it until you do. If you do have fibromyalgia (FMS) you need more medication than something for sleep and nerve pain.

Most of us can tell one horror story or another involving a medical professional that did not want to address the problem. The best thing you can do for yourself is to become an educated, assertive consumer. Take care.
