New here, don't know if I have fibro

Hi, my name is Jill. I live in Park City, Utah and I'm 26 years old. For about 6 months I have been NOT feeling well. It all started with a sinus infection in September that keeps coming back. I had bloodwork done, and my rheumatoid factor came back high. My doctor sent me to see a rheumatologist (which I did last week) but I don't see him for a follow up until the 24th and he didn't give me a diagnosis.

For the last 6 months consistently and for the last few years occasionally, I have suffered from a number of symptoms on the fibro list.

I have had chronic sinus infections, joint and muscle pain and weakness, EXTREME exhaustion, IBS, EXTREME neck pain and stiffness, a burning on the left side of my chest, headaches, malaise, cold sweats at night, inability to sleep, and the list goes on.

I don't know if I have fibro, but I feel terrible and I'm really looking for a reason. I feel like there must be an answer out there somewhere...Anybody?

What should I be doing? What helps?

Hi Jill: Your Rheumatologist might be just giving you a little time to see if this is what you have. Go on and see him again and see what he has to say about your sysmptoms. Sometimes doctors, most doctors do not want to give their patient a wrong diagnosis, he wants to be sure.

Hi Jill! WOW!! I have every single symptom you listed in your post and more so I know exactly what you are feeling. My fibro started after a severe flu over 2 years ago and my symptoms have continued to get worse since it started. It took me 18 months to get the fibro diagnoses which felt good to get an answer and to finally start being treated for fibro. My advice to you is to be patient because if you do have FMS, it might take a few months to get you on the treatment plan that works for you! I also had the rheumatologist send me away for a few weeks for my follow up visit which was a complete let down at the time. I expected to walk out of that first appointment with answers and a treatment plan but I had to wait yet again for another dr.'s appointment. It is a long long story but now I am being treated by my GP who is fantastic. I have been on new medicines for a few months now and some of my symptoms have improved. I never thought it would happen. I have recently starting to feel bad again so I need to make another appointment to adjust my medications but I am optimistic about hopefully feeling even better in the future.
Are you currently taking any medications?? Does anything help your pain and fatigue now?? Let me know if you need anymore information or if you just need someone to chat with! :-)

Wendy. Thank you so much for your response. I'm starting to feel like I'm crazy and dreaming this all up. For the exhaustion, I slept the entire Christmas break, at least 15 hours a day, and I still came back to school exhausted (I"m a teacher). Now I'm on the opposite swing where I can't sleep. I'm having a rough week fighting and sinus infection and one of my students died, so I haven't been sleeping. I took a muscle relaxant and Nyquil and still woke up every hour of the night, but then couldn't get out of bed in the morning. For my neck pain, I lay on a heating pad and take advil sometimes. I've been trying to avoid taking anything just to see if things really hurt or not. I can't wait to get back to the rheumatologist to see what my blood tests revealed, if anything. What medications do you take for fibro?
