Elaine, is he pronouncing this as "fizz"iatrist or "sike"iatrist, because my neuro dr. sent me to a fizziatrist who diagnosed me with myofacial pain syndrome. Fizziatrists treat this condition and other chronic muscle conditions.

Elaine, I have fibromyalgia and possible MS. I am having neuropsychological test done in Oct. It was the MS specialist who ordered these test. The test will be looking for long or short term memory problems, cognitive problems, depression and things of this nature. But I don't believe these test have any thing to do with my balance, pain, or numbness issues. I never heard of a Fizziatrist as Tim mentioned and I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything. He may have spelled it incorrectly or is just pulling your leg. I don't know if this helps but I wish you lots of luck. Brandy

My fibro doctor is a physiatrist Fi-zi-a-trist. They specailize in physical medicine and re-hab.

Lynne, thanks for the correct spelling. I looked it up again and found that this type of doctor does exist. I had never heard of this before reading this post. Very interesting!

Sometimes called a Pain and Motion doc.
I still swear by a good Internal Med doc, though.

Your most welcome Brandy, my neighbor works with people that have MS and referred me to this doctor, I went the RA road also and she never even laid a hand on me.
I am lucky that my physiatrist and my Internal Med doctor are all on the same page I make sure each has copies of what the other is prescribing, test results and so on. It is not unusal for people with FMS to have several doctors, depending what other health problems they have.
