Melatonin

JJ1 - March 7

My daughter has had trouble sleeping at night. She is 13 and has ADHD and her ADHD meds are keeping her up. The doc told us to give her melatonin and it is working like a charm. Just wondering if any of you with sleep difficulties have tried this. I haven't had trouble falling asleep lately, but thinking of trying this myself when I do have difficulty.

Hi JJ1, I found some melatonin strips, [ ya know like those brearh strips they have] at my local drug store and found they work very well, and they work pretty fast since they are strips and melt fast I guess. Anyway I thought you might think they are worth a try. Good Luck and hope your daughter gets some good sleep. ................. Colleen

how do they differ than regular otc sleep aids?

jdtrust - check out www.melatonin.com. It says "Studies suggest that... supplements can hasten sleep and ease jet lag, without the hazards or side effects of prescription sleeping pills." I can only speak to what I observe in my daughter and she is able to fall asleep before midnight now where before she was awake until 4 am. She does not wake up drowsy or feel drowsy during the day. She is only taking 0.3 mg right now and we may increase this. Our doc said not to exceed 5 mg. She takes it about 2 hours before she would like to go to sleep. It is sold over the counter and I found it with the vitamins and supplements in a grocery store.
