Mattress toppers and pillows?
KHawley - February 12

Hello Everyone!

I have been considering purchasing a mattress topper to see if it helps in getting a better night's sleep. Have any of you had success with one? I found one at Target (Down on top Feather Bed) that looks promising. How about memory pillows? My neck aches and I wondered if a new pillow might ease it somewhat. Your thoughts?

I have a pillow top mattress, not a separate pillow topper and it is very comfortable. I do get very hot at night (and I live in Florida, so yes, even this time of year it can get a little warm) and the thought of being on a fluffy down mattress seems a bit smothering to me.

I tried memory foam and it was too hard. Also a wool topper that didn't help very much at all. My favorite combination is an air mattress very hard so my back won't hurt, and a good egg crate mattress, (or 2 on bad days). The man at the medical supply store said the best was the gel mattress toppers, and that's what I bought for my 95 year old mother who was in pain but not an FM'er. She loves it!

Ive never tried a matress topper but the down feather sounds wonderful, im sleepy just thinking about it. From my experience of memory pillows i found it too hard and i couldnt get on with it at all. There are special pillows that you can get that claim to fully support the neck and ease neck pain, i hope you find something to help.

I recently bought a matress topper and I love it. I think the quality of sleep is better. Like Meggie, the memory foam pillow is know help whatsoever. If anyone has any good ideas for pillows, please let us know. I've seen the one that fits around you neck like a ring but couldn't bring myself to buy it b/c I was scared it would be a waste of money. Much like many of the products I have tried.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll remember that about the memory pillows!

Hi there. I have to say that the 2" foam mattress top sold at Target does the trick where others don't. We have had one on our king size bed for almost three years, and I love it. Over it we use a good quality mattress pad and high thread count 100% cotton sheets. We also purchased a foam for travel. I tried the fancy Cuddle Ewe, but find the foam much better and less expensive. I'm 110 pounds and my husband weighs 200 pounds so it seems to wear well enough. When we started using the foam I was able to sleep without a pillow between my knees. As for a head pillow, J.C. Penny has one that workswell for my needs. It is not memory foam but some kind of feather combonation. I still have to punch and fluff forever before it feels good enough for sleep, but I also have had neck surgery, so that might be part of my trouble. Good luck. When you do find what works, buy a lot. They always stop making what we like. I spent five hours Friday searching the net for a night shirt because Nordstrom discontinued theirs. I had been to tight with a buck to purchase several when they were available. Now I've learned my lesson! Sleep Tight

Thank you so much, Connie! That is great to know. The 2" topper was less expensive than the other one I was looking at and right now we can't afford to spend a lot. I will also look for that pillow. Thanks again!

I have a sleep number mattress with a cuddle ewe on it. It helps a lot. I have the travel size so I can take it on vacation with me.

I use a featherbed topper. Have had one for years. It is comfortable year round. Sleeping on a mattress without a topper is next to impossible now. I've grown too accustomed to the extra cushion. I like the idea of a travel size too - thanks Donna!

I have a Memory Pillow and love it... So does the rest of my family when they can get ahold of it...

HI KHAWLEY., I HAVE HAD FIBRO FOR MORE THAN 15YRS. MY PAIN AT NIGHT WAS REALLY EXCRUTIATING. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE SLEEP NUMBER BED AND IT HAS BEEN THE BEST THING I HAVE EXPERIENCED FOR MY PAIN AT NIGHT. I AM 99% PAIN FREE ON THIS MATTRESS. I CAN SLEEP WITHOUT TOSSING AND TURNING. THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO PRESSURE. I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANYTHING FOR SLEEP SINCE GETTING THIS BED. I AM MORE RESTED AND ABLE TO DEAL WITH MY DAILY PAIN. AND WHEN I HAVE A BAD FLARE UP, I GET IN MY BED FOR THE COMMFORT. I HAVE TRIED THE MEMORY FOAM TOPPERS BUT IT LOSES IT'S COMFORT AFTER A FEW HOURS LAYING ON IT AND IT IS HOT.

I have the memory foam bed topper which added just enough softness that i needed, but i also put a heating unit under that to add warmth to the bed which helps a bit with the aichy muscles

I like my memory foam topper but I find the memory foam pillow too hard. It makes my head ache.
