Lost my JOB

My Bleeding Heart - April 14

I just lost my job! What can I do?

A severe fibro flare-up affected my ability to do my job and I was let go. :(

I never felt such immense pain and overwhelming fatigue in my life. And it affected my mental abilities also. I'm utterly depressed and have been diagnosed as manic/depressive since last year after a 30# weight loss and month-long manic period after a major surgery.

I was prescribed Lyrica which is making me DIZZY, but I've only taken it for a few days.

Any thoughts on what I can do to earn a living? Anyone successful with disability?

Thanks ahead of time - My Bleeding Heart (a beautful flower)

Try Allsup for disability. They are online and disability specialists with a 98% success rate. You register online, they call you and set up an appointment to discuss your medical issues in detail. If they take your case, it should be resolved in about 6 months which is a record for SSD. No going to court or filling out forms - they do everything. They will take 25% of your back pay which is standard whether you use them or an attorney. Getting SSD with just Fibromyalgia (FMS) is very difficult but it sounds like your other medical issues may be sufficent to qualify.

I am so sorry that you lost your job. If you just started Lyrica it can take a while for things to settle down in terms of how you feel painwise and other side effects. If you are still dizzy after 2 weeks, call the doctor and complain. You might also look into whether your employer can legally let you go because of your illness. A consulation with a labor attorney should be free. Good luck and take care.

I totally feel for you. I have been teaching in the same school for 4 of my 8 years. Last year, I had to take off almost half a year and I have been off work this year since January. They cannot legally fire me, so instead, I was given a bad evaluation which can be used to fire me. I don't think I will be able to go back to work this year, if ever.

For me, this means that I have to pack up my entire life and move back home, halfway across the country to live with my mom. Let me tell you, being 34 and having to leave the life you have had for the past 10 years makes you wonder if life is even worth living. I, too, have no idea how I am going to survive, pay for the doctor, or get meds.

I did calll Allsup as Fantod advised. I haven't talk to them yet, as I am still so overwhelmed with everything. My insurance company is refusing to pay for treatment to a respectable medical facility and told me to just see whomever is in my area, which is crap!

I am trying to find some jobs where I can maybe do them on the computer, such as web design or writing. Hopefully I can do something like that to get some money.

Most people I have spoken with do get disability but it can take a long time! One person said it took him 4 years. Hopefully you have a good support system, because I have found that is the only way I will make it through this.

Would love to hear from you again to see how you are doing.

If you follow through with Allsup they should have your claim for SSD resolved in 6 months. If for some reason you are denied, they will help you appeal. They have a 98% success rate which is more than I can say for any lawyer. Having used them myself and knowing other people who have used them and suceeded on the first try for SSD I don;t think you can go wrong. Take care.

I'm on disability (ODSP) and it took me a total of 3 days from filing the forms to getting a cheque in the mail. Thats how screwed up I am lol. I was told by a panel of doctors that I was found to have a significant disability that is not likely to get better in my lifetime.

I'm so sorry you lost your job. You can see a lawyer, as they are not allowed to fire you because you are ill. But do see a lawyer.

As for allsup, I have many friends who went to them and within 6 months and less where able to get their disability issue resolved. Please do call them, Fantod and others know what they are talking about.

As for fibro, and being manic depressif, you have enough grounds for disability. I hope you do take everyone's advice about Allsup they will help you.

As for medication, it might take awhile before you get to the correct ones. Adjustment on dose is a common thing, once you are on the right combination of drugs. Just take one day at a time and things will work out, it just takes a little effort on your part.

Bleeding hearts are indeed beautiful. :)

First off, gentle hug. I've been having some trouble at work, and it's sad how callous some bosses can be.

What do you like to do? Are you good at talking to people, do you like to write, are you talented at organization? Those are a good starting point to decide what you'd like to try for. I'm planning on looking for a better job, and am thinking that working at home or working on my writing would be ideal.

If the Lyrica doesn't work for you, there are different meds out there. See if it goes better after a few days.

Also, if possible, try to do things that make you smile. Maybe pick up a book by a favorite author, have a favorite dish, wear a flower in your hair for the day. In tough times, our spirits need as much love as our bodies and minds.

Thanks for all the support and information. I will try Allsup!

As for work, I was a technical contractor at my place of work, and I live in an "At will work" state, which means an employer can fire you at any time for any reason, end of discussion. It's totally wrong, but is the way the law is written.

Thanks and I will let you know how I do. Love, My Bleeding Heart
