I recieved fibromyalgia through a work related injury, but the occ. health doctor says this is completly controversial and he doesn't believe in fibromyalgia despite the fact the hospital saying it directly responsible. Whos' right?

Hi, can I ask what injury you had that caused Fibro? I didn't know that's how you got it. Thanks, Chris2

Answer: I don't know about where you live, but have your GP refer you to a rheumatologist. They know FMS does exist! Many doctors are on the fence, so to speak, about FMS, but a good rheumatologist will put you through some test to diagnosis you. Hope this helps.

Answer: I totally agree with teresa. it took me 3 yrs to get a DX. don't be discouraged. ask to see a RHUMETOLOGIST OR A PHYSIATRIST. they specialize in pain syndromes & will not spin it around on you.

Doesn't "believe" in fibromyalgia? What the heck. It isn't like it is the tooth fairy or something. The only thing that could be controversial I can think of is if the occ. health doc thinks not enough tests were done to rule out other syndromes with similar symptoms. Print off some of the information from the net and pass it on to the occ. health doc so he/she can get educated!

Occ Health doctors are not the most reliable and generally not in your corner. ANd many doctors do not "believe" in fibro. I know of a neuro surgeion that claims fibro is just a fat woman who needs to get out and exercise. Fibro has been controversial, but it was recognized by the AMA back in 1990. Is there any way you can go over your occ health dr's head? Good luck!

Thanks for your messages, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in march and still finding out about my condition and my employer is trying not to except their responsiblilities and are looking to dimiss me on medical grounds. I know I was fit and well before the injuries and after several tests and a year later those injuries still hurt, the hospital says the fibro stems from my injuries, due to the elevated stress level and the resulting trauma kicking in a chemical reaction. So was puzzled by the Occ health doctor complete dismissal of what was said, in fact he didn't even let me finish what I was saying. I have since found a lot of people who suffer from the condition and know it is very real for those people how ever they arrived to the condition. I think I was just fed up after a year of not knowing what was going on, but going through changes which have taken me from a young woman to an old woman with constatant aches and pains and fibrofog having this doctor dismiss the fibro out of hand, saying it doen't exsist, I did reply that the medicial prof. said the same about M.E. when that was first diagnosed as a real condition.
