If my mom has Fibromyalgia
2 Replies
Dan Bergen - April 19

My mom has has fibromyalgia. Is is genetic in that it increases my chances of getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? I am her son and have sleep apnea and am too exhausted to work. The CPAP machine doesnt seem to help much. I read about the alpha eeg anomily.
When I was younger I used to do things like run marathons and hike 20k with a heavy pack. Now I don't dream of those type of things. People think i am lazy but i dont think it is my fault.

I have read that it tends to run in families. No one else in my family has been diagnosed with it, however my mom took naps her entire life due to daytime fatigue and suffered from "arthritis" that could have been FMS, I supposed. She also had gastrointestinal issues.

It does run in our family my Gran was diagnosed in 1940s with fibrositis, my brother has been diagnosed, my Aunty one one side was heard to ask a surgeon to remove her feet because of the pain, my Grandad was addicted to painkillers, my Mum appears to have developed it in her 50s after a stroke. My Dad's Great Aunt took to a chair and never really got out of it until she died

Those of us affected it seems tohave followed a severe fever or in my Mums case a stroke

so yes it does run in my family lol
