Herbal Muscle Relaxer?
teach - December 28

Has anyone ever tried any type of herbal muscle relaxer? If so did it help at all for those days when you just need a little something else. I take Savella and Ibuprofen each day and Lunesta at night. Just wondering.

Thanks

teach - Why are you using Ibuprofen? Only certain classes of prescribed medication work for Fibromyalgia FMS).

For relaxation in general, I have used GABACalm or L- Theanine. They both work pretty well. For muscle relaxation try Malic Acid which comes in capsules. Curamin is very good for breakthrough pain. You can find any of these items at the health food store. Take care.

Thanks for the info. The Dr. put me on the Ibuprofen when I was first diagnosed four years ago. The Savella has made a positive difference, but the Ibuprofen does nothing I do not think any longer. My Dr. will not prescribe a muscle relaxer for me to use when needed, but other than that I like my Dr. and my choices are limited where I live anyway. So I thought I would look into some natural type remedies for this.
Thanks again so much for your input.

teach - Ibuprofen is a total waste of time for treating FMS. OTC remedies do not address the type of pain associated with FMS. Only certain classes of prescribed medication work. Your doctor should know this. I assume and hope that you have had regular blood work to monitor your kidney and liver function while on Ibuprofen. You should stop taking it before you start having stomach problems.

You could always check the National Fibromyalgia Association website to see a list of fibro-friendly healthcare professionals in your area. Take care.
