Heating Pads, Neck Wraps, etc ...

Both my wife and mother have FMS ...

My wife uses a heating pad and it seems to help.
My mom uses heating pads too as well as those rice-filled neck wraps that you heat in the microwave.

What works for you?

Hot baths are wonderful, especially with scented bath salts. Lavender is a great one to use because it also relaxes the muscles and is calming. The rubber-tipped massagers that frequently come in bath sets are very nice on the sore muscles, but just be careful not to use too much pressure or there will be more pain the next day.

My aunt recently encouraged me to get a heated mattress pad for my bed, which has been helping considerably. (They can be found at Wal-mart.) There are even pads where each partner can control the heat on their side of the bed. Good luck!

We bought a Temper-pedic bed...it's heaven!!! and has really helped me sleep better. Massaging shower head with various strengths is very nice too. Sonja44

On a day when I can not be tethered to a heating pad, I like to use the stick on heating pads. I particularly like the ones made by Playtex for period cramps. They are much thinner and not as bulky as the some of the other ones. They can uaually be found in the same aisle as santitary napkins etc. I also have a gel pack that can be frozen or heated in the microwave. I like it because it can be manipulated into whatever shape I might need for an affected area. Take care.
