Hand dicoloring while paying cello

My son is a cellist and lately when he plays for more than about 15 minutes the veins stand out then the knuckles get very dark. If he continues playing the fingers get dark. Any ideas? Gentle hugs. Peace Connie

Greeting Connie, I play classical guitar and when I practice for more than 4 hours, my hand & arm will turn this color of bruising, not exactly blue, but more green, it all depends on the color of your skin. I have calluses, too. It's quite normal, after you relax your arm and hand will return to its normal state, Sometime when I start with my Santana and play along my hand cramps up to the point that I have to stop playing and pry my fingers off the cords, it's just playing with too much tension that is all.
