Hi Michigan - I have never heard of anyone being tested for Fibro with a hair test. From what I understand, there is no actual test to prove Fibro. Because Fibro mimics alot of other diseases (Lupus, MS, etc) usually the doctor will test you for everything else and Fibro is like a "last resort" diagnosis IF you have all the symptoms.

The only "test" I've heard of for Fibro is the Tender Point test where they put slight pressure and you have pain in most of the 18 tender points on your body. The other thing they can do to confirm a Fibro diagnosis is test your Vitamin D levels because most Fibro sufferers are Vitamin D deficient.

What exactly has your doctor told you about the hair test? What has he explained to you about this and how it "proves" you have Fibro?

Very interesting...Let me know how this goes! Take Care, Stacey :o)

The standard test for Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a pressure point test which is done on specific areas of the body. I have never heard of anyone tested using a hair sample.

There are still plenty of doctors out there who think that Fibromyalgia is a figment of our collective imaginations. It is recognised by the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and the National Arthitis Foundation.

You need to see a rheumotologist who has an interest in FMS. You can call your local hospital and ask for the physician referral service. As them for a recommendation to a rheumotologist with an interest in FMS. Or, you can go to the National Fibromyalgia Association website and look at a list of fibro-friendly health care providers in Michigan.

Good luck and take care.

Dear Michigan,

I am also in Michigan. There is no hair test for Fibro. From what I know, they rule out other diseases and conditions and do the Trigger Point test and if you have a certain number of them, you are diagnosed with Fibro. I was diagnosed after I had several other Fibro symptoms and HORRIBLE, CRIPPLING backpain.

What part of michigan are you in?

I am in Battle Creek.

Talk to you soon

The doctors had not said anything about a hair test I have just been doing my own research and found on this site hair testing... unless I am completely nuts. I found it here on this site under tests/hair_analysis.html I have been tested for RA, Lupus, Lyme, Thyroid and more, until I get these bills paid off then I'll try an RA. Well then maybe I'll call the her (Doctor) for a Vit. D test. INPAINDAILYJC - I live in central UP of Michigan, I know of friends/family members who highly rated RA Specialist in Petosky weather he/she has background on FMS I have no clue but, you might want to check into. Thanks everyone, for your comments...:)

Yes, I've had a hair analysis done. It shows what the body is excreting in terms of minerals and heavy metals. If levels of heavy metals are high it can mean that a person has heavy metal poisoning. If minerals are low if can mean that the person is deficient in those minerals. Mine came back as being deficient in sodium and potassium. I take both of these and that has helped me. It also showed that I had toxic levels of calcium from taking calcium supplements. When I stop taking them the constant nausea that I had experienced for two and a half years went away, so it was very useful for me. It doesn't diagnose fibro, just gives you a better picture of your health and what's going on in you body.

kvc33, thanks for good information, I guess then you do not sufferer from a Vitamin D.

Has anyone have dizziness and cold feet/hands with Fibro that comes and goes?

Also go to they are looking for persons with these types of problems for clinic trials.
Thanks everyone.

Yes,every time my hands or feet go numb, they get ice cold. And now my right finger tips turn purple

Is it possible they think you are an advid drug user? I stumbled across this discussion in my research about fibro and I had to put in my 2 cents. If they are curious about your backround recreational drug use that is definately how they would check. I understand the disease is extremely painful so Im sure they are skeptical about who they give the strong narcotics to.
