Fibromyalgia and Surgery
2 Replies
Amy - July 28

I will be having surgery on August 4th for fertility problems and Im really worried about it. I have fibromyalgia (Im 24 and was diagnosed September of last year)and my flare-ups are frequent. I have never been put under and I fear my recovery will be much more difficult and longer because of Fibromyalgia. What are the chances I will have a flare-up due to surgery? How bad/long is the recovery? Are most anesthetists familiar with the effects of general anesthesia and Fibromyalgia?

Amy I have a post on my site you may want to read, it concerns people that have surgery and FMS http://fibrotalk.proboards99.com/index.cgi?boa

is an excellent article, here is the begining; If you are having a major surgical procedure there are some issues that you may wish to discuss with your surgeon and anesthesiologist that could reduce the "fibro-flare" that often occurs after surgery in fibromyalgia patients.
