fibro/thyroid hair volume loss
1 Replies
hallejoe - January 3

I am a 38yo F with fibro. I don't take any medications and just live with the symptoms. I had 1/2 my thyroid removed about 5 years ago and was not required to take meds bc my t3 t4 and tsh always come back within normal range from the 1/2 that is left.

My body reacts like a hypothryoid patient though. Also I have experience probably a 50 percent reduction in hair volume lately. I had a generous amount of hair all my life, so it is not dramatic to anyone, but myself; but at this rate I don't want it to continue.

My question is ...are there other folks out there with both fibro and thyroid? Have you also experienced the hair loss thing? And if you have both what is the best course of treatment that has worked for you?

My doc had Rx different meds for depression and pain (like Cymbalta), but they make me more depressed after taking them for more than 3 months. So now I just take a multivitamin and coQ10 everyday.

Hair loss is usually associated with thyroid problems. I don't think FMS has anything to do with it. I would suggest you get a second opinion on your thyroid function. Best of luck to you.
