Fibro Diet??
sayamyb - January 29

My doctor told me yesterday that I was going to change my diet. I would need to drink reverse osmosis or distilled water. Try the meditranian diet. He also said that I had a autoimmune disease with my thyroid and that my vitamin D level is down. He wants me to take about 7 supplements a day.

Does this sound normal to have to take a bunch of supplements and the water thing and being on a special diet to controll fibro?

Graves disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis are two autoimmune diseases of the thyroid so I assume you have one of those. I would speculate that the dietary changes are being recommended because of the thyroid problems rather than fibromyalgia. I have read that perchlorate, which can be found in public water supplies, can contribute to thyroid problems and possibly that is why he recommends the water treatment, but perchlorate shows up in so many other things (milk, lettuce, etc.) that it doesn't seem like it would be very meaningful to eliminate just that one source. And I am not sure how effectively perchlorate is removed via a home RO system or by distillation processes. I have seen references to Mediterreanean diets for both thyroid and fibromyalgia but have not run across any specific studies saying it is good for either of these.

The meditereanean diet is recommended as being heart healthy. It includes a good balance of foods and healthy fats and oils. Even if it doesn't "cure" fibromyalgia or relieve symptoms, it is otherwise a very healthy diet.
