Fibro and Knee Replacement
1 Replies
ibritz - January 19

I'd like to hear from someone who had fibro at the time of a knee replacement. My fibro is pretty bad, but the pain in my knees is an added bonus. I am having surgery on the first knee in 1-1/2 weeks, and am concerned about the fibro. I was so glad to hear I'm ready, even though only 49, I forgot about the fibro aspect of it. Thanks!

I am new here....I saw your post and can relate. I have severe fibro as well, I also have really bad knees. I am only 32 and a couple years ago I had to have a complete knee reconstruction. I was very excited because my knees pop out of socket a lot also very painful and all my life we have gone to knee specialists who told me all that could be done was physical therapy.(which never helped) Anyhow! I can tell you that it was the worst thing I have ever done! They had to reshape my knee cap and cradle, lengthen my tendon and move a muscle, ect. I remember waking up in the worst pain I have ever been in, crying for the morphine drip they said I would have....and the absolute horror I felt when the nurse came to me letting me know I had already recieved a dose. I know have worse pain in my knee and shin from that surgery along with the arthritis that has now set in it and my fibro got a lot worse because of the shock to my body. My other knee is still in bad shape and the doc wanted to work on that one too but I will never let him!!!!
My mother in law had a knee replacement shortly after mine and she had a real hard time with it as well and she does not have fibro....
I would really urge you to think very hard about having that surgery as the shock from the surgery could be enough to send your body over the edge. Anyhow good luck, I hope I was a little helpful?!?!
