FATIGUE SICKNESS #1

IT SEEMS MOST PEOPLE HAVE PAIN. I HAVE SOME BUT MOSTLY I FEEL LIKE I AM REALLY SICK ALL DAY/EVERYDAY. I FEEL EXHAUSTED, ACHY, TO THE POINT I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO LAY DOWN. THE ONLY THING THAT I TAKE IS XANAX AND TYLENOL.
DONT WANT TO TAKE ANTI-DEPRESSANT/ANTI-CONVULSANT. LOOKING FOR A BETTER WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS CONDITION THEN TO POP PILLS ALL DAY LONG. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL I WOULD APPRECIATE! THANK YOU

ccc - Welcome to the board.

You are wasting your time taking Tylenol and any other OTC pain reliever. Fibromyalgia (FMS) does respond to over the counter pain remedies. Your doctor should have told you this fact. Only certain classes of PRESCRIBED medication work. Prolonged exposure to Tylenol can do a lot of damage to your liver and stomach. I really hope that you are having regular bloodwork done to monitor the function of these organs.

There are now three prescribed medications used to treat FMS. They are Lyrica, Cymbalata and Savella. There is really no better way to deal with this condition.

In addition, you should be on a sleep aid like Amitriptyline. FMS interrupts the deep sleep cycle with short bursts of high intensity brain activity. Your muscles require deep sleep in order to repair themselves from the days activity. No deep sleep means higher levels of pain. This rapidly becomes a vicious circle.

All of that being said, I am not opposed to homeopathic remedies being used in TANDEM with the prescribed medication. For pain, you could try Curamin. This is a spice that comes in capsules in a highly purified form. I use it for breakthrough pain and find it very effective. For sleep you could try Calms Forte, Melatonin or a product called Mid-Nite. If you have muscle cramping and twitching, try Malic Acid. All of these things can be researched using Google and available at a good health food store or the Vitamin Shoppe. Be sure that you understand how to use these items and any risks associated with them.

Diet is also very important. If you use anything containing an artifical sweetner including Splenda - get rid of it. If you need a sweetner, use something made from the nontoxic Stevia plant like Sun Crystals or Truvia. You can find them in the baking aisle right next to the other sweetners. Deep fried foods, lunchmeat and red wine (nitrates) will probably also increase your pain level.

I'd like to gently suggest that you rethink your plan. You don't appear to have any quality of life under the current circumstances. The side effects listed for any drug are usually miniscule. They all have to be listed because of our litigious society. I think that we would all rather not have to take pills all day long but sadly that is the reality. Personally, I'd rather do that and enjoy my life to some degree. Take care.

*Fantod means "does not" where she says 'does respond to'*

Thanks Noca! "Does not" respond to OTC remedies is what I meant. Thank you fibro-fog....lol.

I also left out one key point yesterday. The longer a chronic pain cycle continues, the harder it becomes to manage or stop. Take care.
