Has anyone in the uk made a successful disablity claim for fibro ?.. I'm interested because i'm just about to apply and wondered about my chances as i'm now unable to work.. I was diagnosed almost three years ago ..

I don't live in the UK, I'm in Washington state (US). I was supposed to do this a while back, but just haven't gotten around to it...going to pick the paperwork up this Friday. (no matter what this time! LOL)

My doctor told me to go to the Welfare office and apply for disability through them. I guess there are 2 different kinds of help. 1 is "temporary disability" which means you can't work right now and they give you regular welfare support. The other is "permanent disability" and they give you long time support and medical care. From what I understand it's a lot easier to go through the state (welfare) instead of the federal (social security) because the only thing I need is a letter from my doctor stating I have Fibromyalgia and I can't work.

anyways...I know this doesn't help you englishrose, but maybe someone else who reads this. Good Luck and I hope it works out for you, Stacey :o)

Hi Englishrose, I think it is definately worth you trying for DLA. It is very difficult to get, but if you don't try you will never know. Also if you don't get it first time, it is worth appealing. I have got the lower rate of it, but I have many other conditions as well so it may be that some of my other conditions got it for me and not actually fibro. I know of at least two other people with fibro who get it, but again both of them have other conditions too. I would say, give it a go, you have nothing to lose, and plenty to gain. If you can't work anymore, then you are ill and are entitiled to some benefit. Let us know how you get on.

Just a word on claiming disability for fibromyalgia, you have to have other associated condition, such as depression. Fibro in US and Canada will be refused by itself if you have depression then I hear it goes without a hitch.

Hi englishrose, yes u will get it for fibro, I've seen loads of people on another site that I go 2 and a lot of them have it.I live in Ireland and just today I got word that I've being awarded disability. I'm over the moon. I had to fight hard for it. I was refused twice but I kept appealing and third time lucky. Like yourself I have been suffering for a long time and I find it imposible to work, I'm doing a course and they are very flexable with me. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say the name of the other website but I'll chance it. It's I think that's it, I will have to check. The very best of luck 2 you.
