Im new at this forum stuff. I was diagnosed with FM after an bad infection sent me to the hospital for a week in March of 2005. my doctor gave me flexoril to help me sleep.(sometimes it helps some times not) sometimes i take Bennidril with it. I was doing ok for a while but lately, i find it hard to get out of bed because everything hurts from the bottom of my feet to the base of my scull. do you have any suggestions to help with the pain. I cant get on the floor with my 4 year old grand son because i cant get back up. I'll be 50 in June.

JJ1 has a response: Diana, I have had luck with Amytriptiline (sp?), aka Elavil. It is prescribed to Fibromyalgia sufferers because while not a sleeping pill, it helps you reach the deep sleep necessary to feel rested in the morning. Prior to Elavil, I would think I was sleeping soundly all night, but would awaken the next day and feel lethargic. The deep restful sleep has alleviated my pain considerably. I still have the fibro-fog feeling and will have pain when under stress, but I am much improved over pre-Elavil. However, as a word of caution, Elavil has some side effects that have been too much for some who take it. Rapid weight gain is one of them. I have not had the weight gain with elavil and have maintained about the same weight as I was pre-elavil. I am pretty active though, with 3 teenagers and a hyper-active boxer, that keep me on my toes.

Diane 66, Also be careful of the Elavil---is that amitryptiline?---it cause tremendous weight gain in some people.
