I have read the posts about child abuse being a cause of fms....but im wondering about scoliosis? I have it and i actually had too curves in my spine and ive had harrington rods inserted..i started getting super bad hip pain about a year after the surgery i would wake up screaming. I can't help but think maybe thats when fms started for me (at 14 years old) for the longest time about 5 years i havn't had any pain in my hips and now all of a sudden with my wrist and shoulder pain and everything else the hip pain is coming back...
Has anyone else have scoliosis or have had their spine fused?

I think any kind of personal stress, be it a car accident, death of loved ones, responsibilities greater than we can bare, or, as you suggest, a surgery, can eventually lead to FMS. I have not had the scoliosis/surgery that you think may have started your FMS -- mine started when i became overwhelmed with the care of my ailing parents, care for my 3 kids, and holding down my job. The cause, symptoms and remedy are certainly not the same for everyone. It is a personal decision how each of us approaches our illness and help and advice and condolences should be welcomed from all.

Well i understand you totally jj1 but i have no idea how i would have gotten this ...i wasnt traumatized or stressed out about my surgery and ive never been in a car accident or had an emotionaly traumatic event..hell ive ever even broken an arm nor does anyone in my family have fms. iM just wondering if anyone else with fms has had thier spines fused so that maybe i can come to some conclusion about it...ive been reading about it but havn't actaully discussed it with anyone.

The stress doesn't have to be mental/emotional, it can be physical. It is possible that the physical stress of surgery (any surgery) could trigger FMS. I haven't read or heard of anything linking a fused spine specifically with FMS. Maybe you could go to a scoliosis website where there would be a larger group of people with a fused spine and ask your question there to see if there is a high number of FMS sufferers there.
