Costochondritis and FM
3 Replies
Sue - October 29

I was diagnosed with costochondritis about a week ago. The chest, shoulder and back pain is horrible!!!! I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple of years ago and as I understand it, costochondritis is related to fibro. The pain is better now than an few days ago but my GP did say that it would definately upset the "balance of the body" and now all of my joints are screaming in pain. I am assuming due to the inflammation of costo. that I am having a flare?? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Sue

Did your Dr. prescribe Prednisone? If not you need to be put on that to take down the inflamation. I had Costochondritis and I know how much it hurts but a couple of days on Prednisone made a world of difference. I hope that this helps. Take care and God bless!

My GP gave me an injection of prednisone and the next day I felt some better but over the course of the last week it seems to wax and wane.....better one day/worse the next. Would an anti-inflammatory help? I am probably going back to my GP next week. Thanks for your reply.

I would suggest, in some way, that you be put on Prednisone for 2 weeks. It has been 3 months since I took the Prednisone and it got rid of the pain, in my chest. I would just say that a friend of yours had it and she took Prednisone. I know Dr's think that they know all but they are human. This way you won't "offend" him or her. I hope that you feel better soon. Take care and God bless!
