Has Ambien helped anyone with sleep? I just got a prescription from my doctor since i cant seem to sleep more than 6 hours a night (also waking up at least twice during sleep).

Ambien was a god-send for my sleep problem. However, it quit working eventually. I didn't do well on alternatives, so I am back to taking Ambien, but I take a low dose. I know you're not supposed to cut the pills up, but I do, because I wake up in the middle of the night whether I cut them up or not. Also, it doesn't seem to matter if I take 5 mg or 10 mg. So I keep it low.

I take melatonin, time release in the evening. Later, closer to bedtime, I take a sublingual melatonin and 3 to 5 mg of Ambien. If I wake up at night, I take another piece of Ambien. This has worked well for many years.

I have allergies, so adding 1/2 Zyrtec at night keeps the allergies down and also helps the sleep meds work better.

Good luck with it. Sleep feels good!

And PS. I don't know about the medical marijuana laws where you live, or your feelings about this - but if you research the internet forums you will find thousands of postings about how well marijuana works for sleep and pain problems. One or two puffs is all most people need for a good night's sleep. I think there is a long posting on this site about it under the drug section re cannabis.

I have tried numerous meds to help me deal with my insomnia. Ambien has worked the best. The doc told me to take 1, 1.5, or 2 pills if needed. I still don't sleep a full night and sometimes I am awake until my body quits. I at least can get some shut eye with the Ambien. I never feel refreshed in the morning. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

XOXO

Hi, I have been on ambien since Oct.2010 and there are good and bad nights with mine. Don't think there is a "sleep all night" drug out there to help us. I have also found myself taking an extra one if it's been more than 3 days of no sleep. I also take Vicodin 7.5/750mg and Valium. Had to quit the Flexril due to it not working so they switch me back n forth. My mind I still no matter what I do find it racing all night I feel like I am always on that treadmill and cant get off.. And again as we all know everyone reacts to meds differently so if doc says it's ok to take all you can do is try don't get a full 30 days so then if it doesnt work you are not out of all those wasted pills. Good luck :)

I find Bach's Rescue Sleep calms my mind and helps me sleep. It likely won't resolve serious sleep problems, but for relief of sleeplessness caused by stress and repetitive thoughts (racing mind), it may help. Check out the website. It is available in Health Food Stores. It is a homeopathic remedy.

Can't stress properly sleep edicate enough!

1) Never use the bed for anything but sleep and sex
2) Pick a time for sleep and waking up that will be the SAME every night, this helps get your body into a rhythm
3) Turn down the lights completely, any amount of light can disturb proper sleep
4) Play sleep music, something that has just flute or piano, with NO lyrics. Easy to find on iTunes
5) Avoid all caffeine past noon, or better yet, completely.
