Abdominal Pain
1 Replies
Rookie - February 15

I am a rookie to FMS, as I have been experiencing the symptoms for the past four months. I am 29 yrs. old and have small kids and this has truley been difficult to deal with. I have noticed for the past few months that mostly whatever I eat causes abdominal cramping. I even experience cramping after drinking water. Is this common and does anyone else experience this?

Sorry to say, but YES.... sometimes within minutes after eating lunch I am running to the bathroom....errrgh!!!! Mine was diagnosed as IBS irritable bowel syndrome. If you have had GI testing done and nothing was found, it is probably IBS. I take Elavil, but I still have triggers from coffee and chocolate. Taking a psyllium husk laxative daily will help with the cramping, make sure to drink enough water when taking it. Foods high in fat make it worse such as dairy, salad dressings, baked goods, sugar/sweets. I cant stay on a strict bland diet, it is too hard. Eating rice with fish helps, but it gets old quick. I tried Levsin a few years back but it didnt work for me. If you are female there is a new drug out called Zelnorm, but not sure if it helps. Lots of times the side effects in these drugs is the worse. Elavil helps calm the bowel but not a whole lot. Some of the new SSRI anti-depressants can make it worse so be careful when trying new meds.
