Cortisone shots
2 Replies
Karkel - June 28

I have arthritis in both knees....doctor suggested cortisone shots...anyone try these ? Did it hurt ? Did it help ?

I have had cortione shots in my shoulders and hips. The pain level is no higher than any injection and in my case, After the third day the pain was gone for approximately 6 weeks. After that the discomfort was there but not as intense as previously. Good luck.

Google "cortisone shot side effects" - there are many sites you can read. About (dot) com has several sites with information, and one of their sites, down at the bottom, has a link to over 200 comments by people who had shots. The experiences range from good to horrible. At least, if you decide to get the shot, know what is involved, and ask your dr. to use a small bore needle, numb you up with lidocaine or marcaine (if you can tolerate it) and make sure he sterilizes your skin properly before you get the shot. Infection is a risk. Also, some studies have shown damage to tendons and nerves with repeated shots.

Cortisone is a powerful drug, so google and read up on what effects it has on the body. Good luck with feeling better.
