Look up costochondritis. I have lived with this issue for three and half years now. Shortness of breath, chest pain, the works! I had an echo done of the heart in 2003 and all is well. But if you have fibro then that's probably the answer. Just be sure to check yourself out thoroughly

I also had costochondritis.. It can cause some wierd symptoms.. But before you diagnose yourself.. this could be a serious issue... make sure to get your heart checked out right away.. once this is ruled out.. it is probably safe to assume it is related to Fibro or Costochondritis

Get the pain checked out. I have lived with the chest pain constant for over a year and a half. It creates problems sitting, standing, breathing. I think of all the FM symptoms this is the worse.

Costrochondritis is pain located at the cartilage of your sternum (breast bone). If cartilage is not being fed, it becomes sickly.
The movement of ribs is enough to make it feel like it is being pulled out.

It felt like an eagle's talon was trying to rip out my sternum.

Heart cathe, etc. showed no problems there.

The heavy feeling comes because of bodywide congestion. When the cartilage is so compromised it can't support the flexing of the ribs, it just can't pull air in enough.

Check Saliva pH.
