Supportive Spouses

Hey Everyone, I have a question. Can anyone with a supportive spouse or significant other relate your story? I have been in a relationship for about 6 months and things are great. So far he is wonderful in dealing with when I feel bad and tries to understand. The thing is, I know FM isn't going to go away and I've been having more bad days than good lately. He wants me to let him take care of me, but I'm afraid that he'll get tired of it and start to resent me. I guess I just need reassurance from someone who has experience with this that I'm not setting us both up for more pain. Thanks for being here!

Hi writerchick...I have a wonderful husband who is very supportive. We've been together for 20 years. I was diagnosed with CF/FM 9 years ago.

I believe the important thing is to encourage him to have some away time with a friend or by himself. Caregivers need to first and foremost care for themselves...or they won't be able to care for anyone else.

I only ask for assistance when absolutely needed. De-conditioning is a vicious cycle best avoided.

Every relationship will need to find their own "rhythm"...but everyone needs to be appreciated first and foremost. Communication is key.

Hope that helps.
