How long has it taken you for a proper diagnosis? And, when it came, were you prepared?

It took me over 2 yrs of lots of tests & treatments for the wrong disease! I was prepared, because I knew what was wrong with me before my doctor did!!!

I was prepared for a diagnosis, but I was NOT prepared to accept it. I still have difficulty with my limitations & pain.

I guess I was lucky [?] - I was diagnosed within about two - three months of first exhibiting symptoms. My greatest disappointment is that I was told that the disease would "run its course" in a mere 3 - 5 YEARS!! I am going on year 6 and this year has been one of the worst ones - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to my outbreaks. Further, WHY is it that these people who we hold in such HIGH REGARD = DOCTORS -- give us such ludicrous answers to our questions like "well we just don't know enough about it". WHEN WILL THEY KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT IT? I have lost almost SIX YEARS of my life -- and have recently developed a new symptom - a painful skin condition on my fingertips. Even with morphine, the pain does not abate. Does anyone else out there experience this skin problem called allodynia which is referenced on this site? I have been to the dermatologist about a half dozen times and the pain is unbearable because of all the nerve endings in your fingers.
