My doc believes that many of us have heavy metal poisoning from the environment which causes the FM symptoms. I am not so sure I agree. However, I believe in him as a physician and will let him test me. I will do anything to get a handle on the curse which has altered my life forever.

Anyone else haard other theories outside the mainstream?

Thanks,
Debra

Yes, the heavy metal theory is just one of them. Another theory is gluten sensitivity. Not enough to be considered celiac but still causing damage to the intestines. A blood test may or may not catch it. The most definitive test is using a stool sample. The percentage of people in the population with gluten sensitivity is much higher than previously thought. This is an area that functional medicine specialists are looking at as a possible trigger for Fibromyalgia (FMS).

They have found a strong link between childhood abuse (physical, mental, sexual) and fibromyalgia.

They have also found a link between your mother having an illness while pregnant with you and you being diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

There is also a very strong link between people who have had whiplash and fibromyalgia.

There is a link between people who have an illness in childhood (like mono) and fibromyalgia.

There is also a hereditary link.

They have found many links, but there is a connection missing. They still don't know why all these things can cause fibromyalgia because not all people who have these things happen to them end up with FMS. Heavy metal poisoning may be Point A but FMS is Point C, they need to find Point B.

I'd love to know how your testing went and what test you had?

I came to the same conclusion but by myself. My DR has never treated me for FM and he already says he does not know what to do with me. I don't even know how to take that. I know I am allergic to Titanium Dioxide which is in most meds, and a host of other things. Since itching seems to be a common sympton of FM, I wonder how many of us have this allergy. Dr's will tell you, you cannot be allergic to titanium because it is inert or beleived to be so. But when they take it and make things out of it, it is no longer pure. So something happens that creates an allergy or sensitivity. Patch test is not great for titanium.
