Oh, if we only knew! Doctors and scientists have been studying for years to find out what causes fibro, but no one knows for certain yet. There are about as many theories as there are people. Some people believe it can be stress induced, others believe it occurs after a serious illness or physical trauma. Everyone's story is different. | |

There is no clear cut answer to this. We now have research suggesting changes in the brain chemistry much the same way other neurological diseases come about. We are thought to have altered levels of certain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Norepinephrine, serotonin, and now they are finding dopamine is low. So it only makes sense that most of the new fibro drugs work on some of those chemicals. We also have a hhigher level of a chemical in the spinal fluid responsible for sending pain signals.
