I too am having the same pains at the moment, the chest rib pain, shortness of breath, its scary. And so much pain all over it does scare you into thinking maybe you have cancer or something terminal. You need to get referred to a rheumatologist.

I have had the rib pain and shortness of breath and it totally freaked me out until I realised there were others out there with the same thing. For me it lasts a few days or so and then kind of vanishes! My doctor looked at me as tho i was mad when i tried to explain symptoms, The NHS doesn't really do fibromyalgia so isn't geared up for it. Anyone got any info on how to treat it?

I have been suffering in Jan. 2004 with strange symptoms. I have been to 10 Dr's so far and just got diag. with FMS. The pain that everyone is speaking about in their chest and ribs, if there is no rash, is called Tietze's Syndrome. It is the swelling of the sternum and the ribs, with lots of pain. I myself have suffered with this for months. I was finally put on a higher dose of Prednisone 60 mgs to start with and then the mgs go down every 3 days for 2 weeks. It has been 6 days and it is working. My pain felt as if I had a REALLY BAD pulled muscle in my chest and constricted my breathing. It is a symptom that goes along with FMS. The Prednisone hasn't taken away all my pain from FMS but it has helped with the chest. I hope that this helps. Good luck!!

According to my last Dr. visit, my blood work appeared to be with-in-normal limits, so I have considered myself ‘crazy’ without some medical diagnosis to explain how I could feel so very depressed. And just as tired. I have felt as if my physical body was literally in the process of dying. I can’t count the times a day I find myself ‘sighing’ because I’ll be feeling so tired and just one more breath took such great effort. It’s exhausting. I can barely stand something as light as my own clothing to touch me in a particular area of my body right now. Other times, I can ‘tolerate’ the touch, but I’m aware of the “nagging pain” that is relentless. It is there twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Other areas of my body are most tender to the touch as well. I can’t remember the last time I slept six consecutive hours. I can’t remember sleeping even three for the past month or so. My short term memory has made me paranoid. I find it hard to concentrate and things I used to find simple to do have become very complex. I can’t even keep my mind sane enough to figure out how to see my Doctor again being that I no longer have health insurance. Stress…. So much stress. Like dirty laundry piled high on the floor. Disgusting to “sort through” so you let it pile higher and higher until one day you are lost somewhere in the stench of it all. And this stress has brought to me Depression with such severe anxiety that I’ve wondered if I’d slit my wrist before daybreak. But now…. I have found a possible diagnosis….. Fibromyalgia….. I have to learn more about this disorder. Or is it a disease? I have to beat it. Just knowing what it is has given me power. It’s given me hope that I can get better. I need to see my Doctor and determine for sure if this is what I have been suffering from for so long a time now. Thank you for the well documented infomation at this website. August 15, 2005

I feel for you and unfortunately don't have many answers. I actually got mad at my Dr., before I got diagnosed, because I had blood work done and she said that everything was normal. I told her that I know I am not "crazy" and what I feel and see is real. She told me to calm down and she did some tests on me to determine that it was FMS. It is a horrible feeling not knowing what is wrong with you and going from Dr. to Dr., without knowing. I went to 10 myself and I am sure that there are people that have done the same or more. You are not in this alone and luckily for people like us there is this discussion site. Keep going, I know it feels like it isn't worth it but it is. A Rhumetologist is a great way to go also. Take care and God bless!
