Lesions on the skin

Hello folks, I'm so happy to have found this forum, it has been a true blessing. Thanks so much for your comments, they have been a great help.

About a year ago, I began to see little sores appearing on my upper arms. They looked like mosquito bites and although I haven't been allergic before, I just figured it was bites that hadn't healed. (I'm a very slow healer)

But as time went on, these little sores scabbed over rather than drying up and going away. The scabs grew and became extremely tender. The sores also spread, until all my extremeties were covered.

I have been to six different doctors trying to find out what this horrible condition could be. Between steroids, antimicrobial washes, antibiotics, fungicides, sedatives and several types of allergy meds. Nothing has worked.

After over a year, I still have these awful lesions all over my arms, hands, legs and feet. Not my torso though, go figure.

Anyone else ever had this happen to them or heard of it? I'm wondering if it could be a symptom of my very low immune system abilities. Any input would be really appreciated.

Have any of your doctors considered Lichen Planus as the culprit? It can also affect your mouth. Google it and see if that might be a possiblitiy. I hope you get an answer to the problem. Take care.

Are you or where you on medication since your sores first appear, or take a combination of vitamins and medication.

Have you been referred to a skin doctor for you lesions.?

Hello Fantod, thanks for replying. Yes, about six months ago one er doctor talked to me about the possibility of Lichen Planus, but he seemed to rule it out as I was only affected on the extremities of my body and not my torso, and never in the genital area. But you know, every day they come up with new versions of old illnesses, so who knows, it may well be a different form.

Hello Axxie, Thanks for your response.

One of the first things I was told to do when my skin began to break out, was to stop all the over the counter vitamins and herbs, adding one at a time back to my diet until I could see if there was a difference. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to make a difference, however I have heard a lot about combinations of meds causing a reaction, where individual meds might not.

Nothing is for sure, but I have discovered by trial and error that I am quite sensitive to a lot more food type ingredients than I would ever have thought. Fun, fun. I've learned not to eat walnuts, pineapple, tomatoes, vinegar, citrus or any sort of chewable vitamin c. Not only do they cause ulcers in my mouth, but they add to the number on my arms and legs.

Kayhlan - I am sorry to tell you this but I have a close friend with Lichen Planus. The ONLY place it appears is on her arms and legs not the torso. or genitals. She also has it in her mouth and has to be careful about what she eats. It is absolutely certain that she has Lichen Planus. She also has Sjogrens and Fibromyalgia. I think that you should be reevaluated by another doctor to see if this is, in fact, the source of your problem. Take care.

Wow, Fantod, I had no idea. Well, on the one hand I'm glad to hear that someone else has heard of these particular symptoms, but then again oh no, what an awful set of symptoms to add to the ever growing list. I think you are right, though, I'm going to check into this with a different doctor, and see what I can find out. Thanks again for your comments. I'll be sure to share whatever I'm able to discover here.
